Barbara on Bass: New Horizons Band

In her ‘spare’ time, Batbata is now learning to play the bass, and in addition to instruction has joined the Pioneer Valley New Horizons Band to gain experience playing in ensemble.

A Winter Concert featuring the Pioneer Valley New Horizons Band directed by Nancy Janoson with Special Guests: Joyful Chorus, Nancy Janoson director.

This free and open to the public (masks required) concert will be held on Tuesday December 13, 2022 at 7 pm at the First Churches of Northampton.

Cafe Society Quartet re-united!

We’re back! It’s been over 35 years since Cafe Society regularly performed jazz in the valley, so this will be a special night for us – a fun evening. We’ll be at the Collegian Court in Chicopee Mass on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 7 to 10 pm. Good food, good drink and a blast from the past. Hope you can join us.

Freddie Bryant’s Jazz and Tai Chi Workshop …

Freddie Bryant’s Jazz and Tai Chi Workshop will conclude this weekend with concerts at the Arts Block Cafe on the corner of Main and Court Square in Greenfield, Mass. Freddie performed on Barbara’s CD Detour Ahead. Barbara took Freddie’s workshop this week and will be performing at the 2 pm show.

4 pm – Freddie Bryant and the Kaleidoscope Trio (from NYC) with Willard Dyson – drums, Martin Jaffe – bass and Bryant playing Telecaster, nylon and 12-string guitars.

Shiela Jordan at the Clarion on February 8

After my gig with the Roger Saloom Band, I’ll be heading down to the Clarion Loft Lounge to catch what I can of one of my favorite jazz vocalists, Shiela Jordan. Sheila came into her own during the Charlie Parker era and has been performing ever since. If you don’t know her work, here are two You Tube clips from 1962.
